The Old 96 District, now a popular tourist destination in South Carolina, was originally inhabited by the Cherokee. This region was the birth place of the Confederacy. The region continued support a great amount of textile mills and various other businesses. The region is now a destination for tourists containing: churches, battle sites (both Revolutionary War and Civil War), and other tidbits of history. Every year in June, Greenwood plays host to the South Carolina "Festival of Flowers". Park Seed Corporation, located in Greenwood and one of the largest gardening companies in the world, plays a large part in the Emerald City's ability to host this event.
